Va. Supreme Court: Too Much Redaction of Legal Bills Under FOIA

The Virginia Supreme Court has just issued a decision in litigation over a public body’s “too broad” redactions of legal bills. According to the Court, “the City’s redactions . . . included items that are not shielded from disclosure by the attorney-client privilege or work production exceptions [to disclosure].” The Court reversed the circuit court and remanded the case for further review of the redactions and “to consider whether to award reasonable costs and attorney’s fees [against the City] . . ..” Read the Supreme Court’s opinion here: http://www.courts.state.va.us/opinions/opnscvwp/1171183.pdf
